Pleasant Land Books was formed out of a love for the written word and the cherished, old books
that allow us to escape to almost any place we might want to travel.
The Pleasant Land name is derived from our hometown location: Athol, Idaho.
The name Athol, was given to our town in 1881, by the Northern Pacific Railway.
After searching their archives at St. Paul, it is reported Northern Pacific officials selected the name Athol
from another railroad town, Athol, Massachusetts. Athol Mass. was named for James Murray, second duke of Atholl in Scotland.
Athol means pleasant land, and our little town proudly boasts its name and heritage.
The railway still runs through the heart of the city, and the surrounding area is indeed a "pleasant land".

We are pleased to announce the opening of our new store in the city of Rathdrum.
Rathdrum was formerly known as Westwood, and was once the county seat of our area.
Rathdrum is a sleepy, little town with a wealth of history and all the beauty of North Idaho.
We are excited to be a part of those that are seeking to preserve Idaho's history in the architecture and remodeling that is taking place in downtown Rathdrum.
